Day trips are better than family vacations

Have you gone on a family vacation and instantly regretted it?! Or do you absolutely love every minute of it? Hear me out & stick with me until the end 😂🙆🏼‍♀️

Five reasons why day trips with toddlers and young children are way better than family vacations.

Number one-you get to sleep in your own bed and your children get to sleep in their own beds. Which means you aren’t constantly having one eye on the door praying one of your children doesn’t try to escape in the middle of the night & one eye scouring the hotel room or air bnb any nasty bugs and remnants of all the other people who have slept in there before you. Plus, we have children that still nap and naps are life and I do not want to give up naps for a family vacation quite yet. Especially because if our 3 year old doesn’t get a nap, nobody is going to have any fun at all.

Number two: it is highway robbery. If you are driving anywhere, you are going to have to make probably one pit stop an hour for snacks, have to get all your meals at fast food restaurants which is not cheap at all and if you are smart and actually pack a cooler or pack some snacks there’s a 99% chance that you are just going to throw them out and get fast food anyway. If you are flying that is a whole other story-the prices at airports for a bag of pretzels is absolutely ridiculous and then the kids will fight over them even if you get them all the same dang thing.

Number three-now if you’re driving, there is going to be the inevitable crisis in the trip. Maybe you get lost, somebody has a potty accident-but more likely a poop accident…your wife has some kind of a hunger crisis because she can’t manage her body well and (it’s me. I do this every time )you’ll get into a huge fight over something that is normally probably nothing other than being in the car all together with loud children.

Number four-family vacations shouldn’t even be called vacations. They should be called “relocations” because you are going to have all of the same meltdowns, issues, & struggles that you do at home but instead of being in the comfort of your own home with all of your comfort items and your kids’ toys…you’re in some strange place trying to figure it out while your kids are off of their routine & discombobulated. Is anyone actually having fun or do you just think you are when you reminisce? 😂

Number five-you don’t have to take any vacation days if you do a day trip on the weekend. And that is our biggest reason really. All of these things that I’m talking about are tongue-in-cheek but have some truth to them. Mostly we’re just salty because we didn’t get to go on a fun family vacation because Martin doesn’t have any paid time off 🤪 But I still stand firm with my belief that day trips are better than family vacations in this stage of life!
